Welcome!
Hi there! Welcome to Hartsord’s Random Stabs in the Dark. I’m Hartsord and this is my blog.
A little background on me: I’m a 31-year old father of two beautiful little girls, and I live in the Pearl of the Orient Seas, the Philippines. I work as a Lean Manufacturing Superintendent in a manufacturing plant located in the province of Laguna, and my interests range from computers, to singing, to reading, to RPG’s (the face-to-face kind), to playing collectible card games, or to just thinking about the nature of people in general.
This is actually not my first attempt at putting up a web page, but it’s something I haven’t done in a long time. This is my first blog-type work though, but the format seems to be one I think will suit what I want to do here.
One of the things I’ve thought about doing for a long time is collating all the random thoughts I go through from day to day. I consider myself as a contemplative guy, and I do enjoy going over thoughts in my head on occasion. Along the way, I think that I have developed quite a few tidbits that might mean something to someone else sometime in the future – if they ever run across it, that is. For a while I was thinking about just writing them down and publishing a book or journal, but I never got around to actually starting it.
Last night, though, I was browsing over the internet, and I decided to go visit my old webpage on Yahoo Geocities but it hasn’t worked in quite a while now. It’s only a free site, so I don’t have full control over it, but I checked the files in the site, and they’re actually there, but Geocities won’t display it. It’s rather frustrating, actually.
I rechecked the help files, verified that FTP and Frontpage uploading is only allowed for the premium sites, and couldn’t figure out why the site wouldn’t show. I actually used Adobe Photoshop 7 to create the page, and maybe that’s why it wasn’t working, but the HTML of the index file seemed fine. Bummer. Oh, to hell with Geocities. I decided to see if there was another alterative.
Then I remembered reading about this guy who started making money off of his blog, courtesy of Google’s Adsense program. Sounded good to me, though I doubted that I could make any real money off of a blog anytime soon. The blog format seemed perfect for me to share my random thoughts about the scattered topics I want to write about which include:
1. Computer related stuff – assembling PC’s, MS Office, Windows tweaking, a bit of Adobe Photoshop, delving into Adobe Illustrator, Autodesk Inventor, and other things
2. Peopleware – I like analyzing how people think, and as I’ve gone though several management positions, I have picked up a few pointers about the nature of people (along with tidbits from my wife, who’s an HR specialist)
3. Math and Engineering – I do have an engineering background (ChE), and I do enjoy math, thank you. I enjoyed a lot of the engineering math that I did in college, such as PID control algorithms, and I think I’ll revisit them here.
4. Lean Manufacturing – this is what puts bread on the plate for me now, and I find a lot of challenge in it. The nice thing about it is that it let’s me help people improve their work, in an almost magical way sometimes. I’m even thinking of becoming a consultant on it, instead of just an employee focused on it.
5. Games and Hobbies – I like a lot of games, in a lot of formats. Currently my major ones are Magic: the Gathering and Soul Calibur 2 (Xbox), but I also like a lot of other PC games, and Dungeons and Dragons as well
These are but a few of the topics that I’ll be talking about. They may be a bit diverse, but then that is why I decided to call this Hartsord’s Random Stabs in the Dark.
Well, that’s it for me for now. I hope you do come back soon to see what else I’ll be putting here. Catch you later!
