Computers - Blogger Features

Hi there! Welcome to the second post in Hartsord’s Random Stabs in the Dark. For this post I thought that I’d write a little about the service that allows me to present this article to you: Blogger.

I have always been a big fan of the service that Google gives. In virtually every way, they have given their users the best service that they can, starting off by giving an honest (for the most part) web searching engine that tries to come up with the most relevant sites to a search query in a logical manner. They have also kept the service as clean and as straightforward as possible (as evidenced by their main page), yet have expanded their suite of services considerably.

Among the tools added to the Google family is Blogger. Apparently, this used to be Blogspot, but the old service seems to be transitioning over to Blogger. The basic Blogspot URL (http://www.blogspot.com/) now redirects over to Blogger, but the blogs themselves are still on the Blogspot domain, as evidenced by the URL of my main page: http://hartsord.blogspot.com/ .

Nevertheless, the Blogger engine seems to remain in keeping with the feel of Google, giving a simple, easy-to-use service that still maintains enough capability to cater to the desires of the more advanced user. I started off with one of the default templates Blogger provides, but even though I only came upon the service yesterday, already I’m using the nice Mail-to-Blogger feature to post this article via e-mail. I’ve also signed myself up for the Google Adsense program, and I’ve found out how to insert the banner code into this blog once my subscription is approved (I wonder how much money I’ll make off of this. We’ll see.)

Overall, I find the Blogger site to be an excellent way to get onto the blog scene. Its learning curve is shallow enough not to lose the real beginner, yet is featured enough to retain the user as he or she becomes more adept at making blogs. For anyone wanting to get into this kind of thing, Blogger is the perfect place to start, and continue with your blogging work.
